Thank you to our members who submitted articles to this Bulletin!

As is the case with many organizations, the pandemic brought about many changes for Ag-West Bio. Times of change force creative thinking, and we are really excited about the new opportunities that have arisen within our sector.

One exciting initiative is the Global Agri-Food Advancement Partnership (GAAP), which officially launched in December. Housed at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, GAAP will help agri-food start-ups address unique challenges, providing facilities, mentorship, training and funding to early stage, homegrown companies, as well as international clients looking to establish a presence in Western Canada.

An event in February co-hosted with our friends at GAAP, the Global Institute for Food Security and the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre, showcased an incredible number of new career opportunities available in the sector.

Mark your calendar for the launch of The Knowledge Farm on March 16th, a new event series that we co-host with Innovation Place at the Boffins Event Centre, to encourage our community to explore all kinds of agri-food topics. Watch the website for exciting learning and networking opportunities coming your way – in person or from the comfort of your own computer.

The Spring 2022 ABIC Speaker Series features Sylvia Wulf, president and CEO of AquaBounty Technologies (April 19, 3pm CST). Sylvia leads the company that developed and commercialized AquAdvantage salmon, the world’s first bioengineered animal approved for food. Sylvia will join Karen Churchill (Ag-West Bio president and CEO) for a fireside chat (in-person and online), to discuss the challenges and triumphs of leading an organization with a unique and innovative product. Those attending in person will have a chance to try the salmon, along with other appetizers made from genetically engineered foods. Register soon as space is limited!

We are currently working with our partners to promote two important events this spring: The Saskatchewan AgriValue Forum on May 4th and the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 9th. Visit the event sites to learn more and to register.

We encourage Ag-West Bio members to submit articles to the Bulletin (please read the submission guidelines). Visit our event calendar and sign up for our Weekly Update to keep up with news and events in Saskatchewan’s bioscience industry; and of course, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn, and subscribe to our YouTube video channel. Watch for our new website coming soon at www.agwest.sk.ca!
