Life on the farm can be unpredictable; challenging weather, fluctuating markets, long days and many other unknowns are a constant reality. That’s why Saskatchewan producers, their families and their employees need a dependable place to turn when they need help.

The Farm Stress Line is a toll-free, crisis support line available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Calls are confidential and answered by therapists trained in the realities of farm life. The Farm Stress Line provides immediate support that is practical, relevant and compassionate.

The Farm Stress Line is managed by SaskAgMatters Mental Health Network Inc., a producer-led non-profit working to improve access to mental health supports. SaskAgMatters also offers counselling services for people in the agriculture industry. Eligible individuals can receive up to six free, one-hour sessions each year with registered mental health professionals who understand farm culture, including some with direct agricultural experience.

While progress is being made, stigma around mental health still exists in the agricultural sector. For many years, producers often felt they had to manage challenges on their own. Initiatives like SaskAgMatters and the Farm Stress Line are helping shift that culture by making it clear that mental health challenges are not a weakness and support is available without judgment.

Mental health is just as important as physical health or the success of an operation. Farming can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be stressful and isolating. Speaking with someone outside your immediate circle can provide perspective, reassurance and guidance during difficult times.

You do not have to wait until you feel overwhelmed to ask for help. Support is available, and you are not alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, call the Farm Stress Line today.
