Saskatoon, SK: Ag-West Bio hosts its Annual Meeting at Prairieland Park on September 28, 2016. The meeting will be followed by “Brew-HaHa: There’s science in my beer!” a showcase of members of Saskatchewan’s Craft Brewers Association.

A special presentation will feature scientists Alex Speers (Professor, Canadian Institute of Fermentation Technology at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS); hops expert David Hysert (retired VP, John I. Haas, Inc.); and award-winning barley breeder Brian Rossnagel (Professor Emeritus, University of Saskatchewan).

Member breweries from Saskatchewan’s Craft Brewing Association will have a chance to deliver ‘elevator pitches’ to the audience.

Wilf Keller, President and CEO of Ag-West Bio, notes that there is a growing interest in craft beer in the province. “Tastes are becoming more sophisticated. The craft brewers are adding a lot of variety to the selection we have, making us more competitive as a province. We are happy to showcase these entrepreneurs, who are working hard to grow the industry in this province.”

Keller also points out that this event coincides with Global Biotech Week. “Beer was one of the first products of biotechnology; there’s evidence that it has been around for 5000 years. This event is a fun way to emphasize that bioscience enhances many areas of our lives – including brewing a consistently good quality beer.”

Saskatchewan’s Minister of Agriculture, Lyle Stewart, will bring greetings from the Government of Saskatchewan, and Mayor Donald Atchison will deliver a message from the City of Saskatoon.
