Dr. Smyth holds the Industry Funded Research Chair in Agri-Food Innovation & Sustainability Enhancement, and is an Associate Professor,  College of Agriculture and Bioresources, USask.

This is the 2020 Global Biotech Week edition of Café Scientifique Saskatoon. Global Biotech Week's Saskatchewan activities are coordinated by Ag-West Bio. Introduction is by Dr. Julia Boughner, who founded Café Sci Saskatoon. Typically held monthly in the basement at a downtown Saskatoon pub, this edition of Café Scientifique Saskatoon was held online. 

When GM crops were commercialized 25 years ago, experts expected the only benefits to be higher yield and lower chemical use. However, this talk will highlight some of the unexpected health and society benefits of GM crops.
