Kathy Larson

Kathy Larson has been a Professional Research Associate/Extension Economist in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Saskatchewan since November 2018. Her position is one of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture’s Strategic Research Program Chairs and is focused on beef, forage and farm management research and extension. Prior to joining USask she worked for eight years as the Western Beef Development Centre’s Research Economist. She completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science degrees in Agricultural Economics at the University of Saskatchewan.

Kathy’s research and extension interests include: tools and training on cost of production; value of record keeping; adoption of management and marketing practices of cow-calf producers, and; factors associated with recommended management practice adoption. She also provides economic analysis to support the forage and livestock research conducted by colleagues in animal and plant science. She is the 2024 recipient of the Canadian Industries Award in Extension and Public Service.

Originally from a purebred cattle and grain farm near Francis in southeastern Saskatchewan, she now calls Prince Albert home. In her spare time she enjoys camping and fishing with her family.
