Nuit Blanche: Making Art with Bacteria – September 24th

For the second year Global Biotech Week is partnering with Nuit Blanche, a free, night-time arts festival that showcases and celebrates art and culture. This year, the Sask Polytechnic BioScience Technology program students will create art using e.coli bacteria as a painting medium! The artwork will be on display River Landing during the event and students will be on hand to explain the process to the public.

Taste of Innovation: Kick-off Lunch – September 26th

Join us at Boffins, Innovation Place in Saskatoon for a special lunch to celebrate Saskatchewan food and ingredient innovation! Space is limited and registration is required.

Indigenous Voices in Science Panel Discussion – September 27th

Join Genome Prairie for this special free Zoom event featuring scholars and researchers who will share their life experiences and perspectives about advancing indigenous people in research and science. Panelists include Blaine Chartrand, Gord Munroe, Amber Thomas, Dawn Pratt, Dr. Kyle Bobiwash, and Mike Cey.
11:45 am – 1:00 pm Hybrid event. Free hot lunch will be served for in-person attendants.

Café Scientifique – September 27th

GBW is collaborating once again with Café Sci to make science accessible! 7:30 pm. Hybrid event.

Why communities are at the heart of global conservation efforts by Dr. James Robson (Associate Professor in Human Dimensions of Sustainability at the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS), and UNESCO Co-Chair (since 2018) in Biocultural Diversity, Sustainability, Reconciliation, and Renewal).

Canadian Light Source Tours – September 28th

Tour the CLS with Industry Services Manager Jeff Warner and Environmental & Earth Sciences Manager Chithra Karunakaran to learn how researchers and industry are using cutting-edge synchrotron techniques to drive biotech innovation.

Biotech & Beer @ The Mix – September 29th

Biotech & Beer is back! The Mix at Boffins is the scene for this year’s event! Join us for craft beer and Biotech Trivia – and hang with colleagues/friends in real life! Enjoy a short presentation and beer tasting with Chris Eskiw, Associate Professor, USask College of AgBio, Food and Bioproduct Sciences (FABS) 
Chris will lead a beer tasting session and present a short talk, “The Original ‘Micro’-breweries: connecting yeast with Beer Flavours”. Registration for the tasting session and trivia will be available soon!

Climate Cool: Exploring science solutions for sustainability – October 1st

​Students (elementary and high school) are invited to participate in a science poster competition on the theme of bioscience and sustainability.
Join us for a kick-off event at Nutrien Wonderhub, for hands-on, table-top science activities for all ages and a quick primer on how to design a poster to explain a science concept. ​2 to 3 pm OR 4 to 5 pm (2 sessions)

Startupville: Biotech Week Edition

This is a special Global Biotech Week edition of the Startupville Podcast, brought to you by Innovation Place and Martin Charlton Communications. The podcast features interviews with startup founders and tech community leaders discussing what it’s like to build a start up in a small city. Listen to the special episode during GBW 2022.
