Kate Sanford Mitchell

Kate Sanford Mitchell is the Business Director for North America at Acadian Plant Health, where she leads both the commercial and marketing organizations. Prior to this, she was the Global Product Manager for Herbicides at UPL Ltd prior to managing marketing for the region at Acadian. Kate has also held other marketing, project management and market research and competitive intelligence roles in a variety of crops and indications, while working on numerous special projects and new business development. These gave her great exposure to the Canadian, US and Global agricultural markets.

Before her roles in agriculture, Kate worked in pharmaceutical sales, sales management and market access where she provided recommendations to marketing, regulatory, government affairs and sales on how to most successfully launch new products to the market. Kate graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture with a major in Crop Science from the University of Alberta. She has her Council for Continuing Pharmaceutical Education Accreditation with designations in Infectious Disease, Cardiology and Pharmacoeconomics, plus achieved her Certified Crop Science Consultant designation from the University of Saskatchewan and Transformational Leadership designation from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

She is passionate about creating opportunities for people in agriculture, while increasing the awareness and profile of agriculture across Canada. This has led Kate to be involved with 4-H, the Classroom Agriculture Program, Ag for Life, Aggie Days and the first ever Youth Ag Summit which was attended by 120 youth from across the globe who were passionate about leadership, innovation and sustainability in answering how agriculture will work towards feeding 9 billion people by 2050. She has been interviewed by Country Guide, Grainews and numerous local papers across Western Canada on weed and disease management and how to combat the global problem of resistance with local, practical solutions.

In her spare time, Kate can be found baking, canning, reading, playing cards and spending time on her farm with her husband at Lavoy, AB. Kate’s passion in life is seeking out opportunities to objectively promote agriculture and healthcare through creating understanding around innovative and complex issues.
