Saskatchewan Life Science Showcase

An important part of business development is helping companies connect. The Saskatchewan Life Science Showcase is a new series of networking events launched by Ag-West Bio to give companies an opportunity to talk about their background, their research, or to share their strategies. They may be established, Saskatchewan-based companies who have business or research news to share; they may be companies relocating to Saskatchewan, or traveling through the city and of strategic interest to our community; or they may be entrepreneurs working towards success in our province.

Wilf Keller, president and CEO of Ag-West Bio, believes it is important for the community to be informed - aware of what other companies are doing. "The Showcase is an opportunity to meet the company representatives, discover potential areas where collaboration might be beneficial, or open doors for investment opportunities."

If you are interested in being featured at a Saskatchewan Life Science Showcase event, or would like to recommend a company, please contact Brad Bly at 306-668-2665.

March 18, 2010 Investment & Commercialization Seminar

25 people attended the Investment and Commercialization lunch seminar held in Regina on Thursday March 18th at the SpringBoard West Innovation Training Room. The seminar entitled, Disruptive Technology – Maximizing Market Opportunities, was the third seminar in Regina in 2010. This third seminar was a natural continuation of seminars one and two, “What Investors are Looking For - Understanding Risk” and “Raising Private Equity”, providing seminar attendees with well-rounded insight into raising capital, understanding the investor’s perspective, and unique models to target niche markets in an effort to get disruptive technology into main stream applications.

The March 18th seminar focused on the landmark technology marketing book, “Crossing the Chasm” by Geoffrey Moore. Presenter David Gauthier of the Entrepreneurial Foundation highlighted the concepts in the book while discussing how to maximize disruptive technology opportunities. To maximize potential value from a new technology or product, the entrepreneur needs to carefully map out and sequence various target markets that will be pursued over time.  The seminar examined models and strategies to squeeze every penny out of a technology or product and to extend its lifecycle.

Brad Bly ( AWB Technology Commercialization Manager) and Lanis Anthony  (SAINT and CCINC) provided closing remarks, and reinforced the concepts in the book by highlighting the characteristics of successful commercialization plans with respect to niche market targeting, attaining references from influential early adopters, and focusing market efforts while managing scarce resources.
